3. Report: Greater Nagoya Initiative Annual Meeting (March 2 ’10)
On March 2nd, board members of Greater Nagoya Initiative (GNI), the decision
makers of planning direction of the Initiative, held an annual meeting to discuss the current economic situation and share their thoughts about industrial trends in Greater Nagoya area. The members also shared their ideas and proposals on how to attract more global companies to expand and open businesses in Greater Nagoya region.
For the fiscal year 2009, 11 international corporations have successfully established their offices in the region with the Initiative’s support. In FY2009, GNI invited 35 overseas companies and promoted our activity in three exhibitions within Japan. Three hundred and fifty-six business matchings were organized for the invitees to meet local companies who were interested in doing global business, and many of those who had the meetings have been keeping and enhancing their relationships.

Chairman, Shibata gives his comments at the annual meeting.
During FY 2009, GNI sent missions to overseas four times to promotion the Greater Nagoya region. Membership of the GNI Partners Club has increased to more than 510 corporations and organizations after new 70 organizations applied in FY2009. The Club members consist of those who seek foreign firms to tag business alliances. GNI plans to focus more on promotional activities to advertise one of the best manufacturing region, the Greater Nagoya area throughout the world. GNI will continue to support not only those planning to establish offices but also those expanding their business. To foreign firms who have already established their offices in Greater Nagoya, follow-up services such as business-matching opportunities with local companies will be provided and a cross-industrial trade fair show in the region will be introduced. GNI staff members will work to support the companies who desire to start their businesses in Greater Nagoya. In this year, GNI gathered 67 attendees to the business seminar, which focuses on foreign companies already located in Kanto region, who may consider launching new facilities in other regions in Japan.
