◇◆ 4. Opening of the Robot Museum ◇◆
===================================
On October 12, a museum called “Robot Museum” was opened in Nagoya. This is a museum displaying and exhibiting robots exclusively. The museum was established to share information and provide experiences on robots to public as well as to develop communications between researchers and public to become more familiar with our daily life with robots. Greater Nagoya might be the best place to have such exhibition since we have been exposed to robots with new technologies at the World Expo 2005 held in Greater Nagoya.

The 1st floor is for special exhibitions on robots. Researchers and artists are invited throughout the year for special exhibitions. The current exhibition is collaboration of industrial robots with arts by “robotlab”, artists and scientists group in Germany (until February 4 2007). The 2nd floor exhibits the history and transitions of the use of robots, and the robots with cutting-edge technologies. You can touch, play and also see demonstrations with popular robots like AIBO (an entertainment robot able to act like a real dog developed by SONY), and wakamaru (recognizes people’s faces and communicate depending on the situation developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., also exhibited at the World Expo 2005). The museum offers workshops, lectures, and site tours to other facilities outside including science and art museums, research institutions, etc. Museum shop sells different kinds of robots including robots with cutting-edge technologies, sophisticated hobby robots, and toy robots collected from all over the world.

The admission is 1,300 yen for adults, 1,000 yen for students, 700 yen for 12 years old and under, and free for pre-school age children. There is also a restaurant called Famires in the museum where you can enjoy organic and healthy food.

◇◆ 5. Irish Pubs ◇◆
===================================
Economy in Greater Nagoya is booming and internationalization of the area is progressing. There are many Irish Pubs around Nagoya station. Some of them have just opened recently. These pubs are starting to bustle because of its location and recent developments of the area. For example, a new office tower called “Midland Square” has just opened last month right in front of Nagoya station where Toyota’s new office with overseas operation division has moved into. Nagoya station has easy access to the Greater Nagoya’s international airport called, Centrair. These factors will affect the further internationalization of the area.

Irish Pubs’ customers are increasing with business men in automotive and aerospace industry and other fields. It may be nice to experience traditional Japanese bars, but some foreigners enjoy the Irish Pubs so that they can feel at home with drinks, food and music they are more familiar with. Since Nagoya station is convenient for overseas business trips, we are expected to bring more business, people, and entertainments into the area from the world.

◇◆ 6. Culture: Beauty of Autumn in Japan◇◆
===================================
Japan’s weather is entering into the best season, autumn. The weather is warm and always sunny, and the temperature is perfect (average temperature of 15C to 17C– 50F to 63F). During this time of the year, the leaves are turning into colors with yellow, red, and orange.

Landscape and scenery of foliage in Japan is outstanding with breathtaking nature, climate and culture we have. We are surrounded by forests and mountains with trees with leaves that change colors before winter. These trees are called “deciduous trees (a broadleaf tree whose leaves die down in one year and change colors before they fall)” which you will see only in the coastal area of East Asia, the eastern part of North America and some parts in Europe (maple trees are one of the most famous deciduous trees ). The characteristics of the weather we have in autumn are also affecting the beauty of autumn. In autumn, we have sunny warm days but chilly nights. The sun during the day and the big differences in temperature between day and night make leaves brighter color.

We have had a tradition to enjoy the beauty of autumn leaves since Heian Period in the 9th century (more than 1,200 years ago) among ancient nobles and the tradition has been inherited to the Japanese people today. There are many places in Greater Nagoya where you can enjoy the beautiful foliage including “Kourankei” (in Aichi prefecture) which is ranked one of the best places to view foliage in Japan. You will be amazed by the breathtaking landscape and the nature.
